Kinetiq, Reuters, and Sony Advance Content Provenance and Authentication Across the Content Lifecycle
New workflow connects Sony camera-originated C2PA provenance with Kinetiq’s Teletrax watermark, preserving content provenance and authenticity throughout Reuters production and distribution.
As AI-generated and manipulated content becomes increasingly sophisticated, establishing where digital media came from — and maintaining that connection as content moves across platforms and workflows — is becoming increasingly important.
At IBC 2026, Reuters, Sony and Kinetiq are demonstrating a new near-live production workflow that brings together C2PA provenance and persistent watermarking to help address that challenge.
Building provenance from capture through distribution
The workflow begins at capture, where Sony cameras — building on the PXW-Z300, the world’s first camcorder capable of recording C2PA metadata directly into video files — create C2PA provenance information for Reuters video at the point of shooting.
Sony’s near-live file transfer then maintains the continuity of this provenance information as the content moves from the camera to TAMS. A persistent Kinetiq Teletrax watermark is added and linked to that provenance before the C2PA manifest is updated for distribution.
Why does the watermark matter?
C2PA provenance information can become separated from a video as it moves through downstream workflows. The Teletrax watermark remains imperceptibly embedded in the content itself, providing a persistent way to identify the video and help reconnect it with its provenance information.
A proven technology takes on a new role
This is a new application for technology that Kinetiq and Reuters have relied on for decades. For 25 years, Kinetiq’s Teletrax watermarking has embedded persistent, imperceptible identifiers into Reuters video, traditionally allowing content to be identified and tracked after distribution. Today, that same persistence can help address a different challenge: maintaining the connection between digital content and its provenance.Kinetiq’s Teletrax watermark is included on the approved C2PA soft bindings list. Today, Kinetiq watermarks more than 200,000 hours of content annually and monitors video across more than 6,000 broadcast and digital platforms worldwide.
As Kevin Kohn, CEO of Kinetiq, explains:
“For 25 years, Reuters has relied on Teletrax to maintain a persistent identity with its video as it moves around the world. Today, that same proven technology can play an important role in a new challenge: helping authenticate digital content and preserve its provenance throughout its lifecycle.”
